A new cousin!

We'd like to introduce our new cousin, Smidgen! Smidgen is a Yorkie Terrier, who lives on Cape Cod! We haven't met Smidgen face to face yet, but Mom put up a web page with some cute pictures! He sure is a cutie, and makes his human mom and dad happy!

The leg update.....

My broken leg is doing well! I've got a limp that comes and goes, but I can keep up just fine with Belle! It sure was a close call. I got an infection, and for a while there, my Doctor thought I might loose my leg! I sure want to thank all the people who sent emails, and well wishes via the online groups we belong to!

No Puppies for us!

Be responsible! Spay or Neuter your Pet!

Thanks!

When Mom & Dad got Me & Belle, they thought that they might breed a litter or two.Let me tell you, I'm glad she has access to the internet! She read a lot of stories about Puppy Mills, and others from Rescue Groups.

Boston Terriers often have to have C-Sections when they deliver. (That's one of the downsides of having such a big beautiful head!). So breeding us really takes some know how, and a good vet.

There are so many Boston Terriers that need homes. We are adorable dogs, but sometimes people adopt us not knowing how active we are. Mom says we are perennial puppies. Some people learn too late that we may not be the breed for them.

Mom told me that if someone wants a Boston Terrier, or any other breed of dog, there are plenty of them to adopt. Your local animal shelter is one place you could look, if you want a dog or cat to keep your lap warm.

There are lots of rescue groups for specific breeds. If you want to adopt a particular breed go to any search engine and type in the breed name and "rescue", I'm sure you'll come up with plenty of links!

After Mom learned all this new stuff, she talked to Dad about getting us fixed. What a load off my mind. I sure would hate to think of any of my babies ending up in a puppy mill!

We want to thank the Marion County Neuter Commuter for all the wonderful work they do! The Neuter Commuter is a bus, set up as a surgical unit. It travels all around the county to make things easy and affordable!

Do you know that if you live in Marion County, for $25 ($5 if you qualify) Neuter Commuter will spay/neuter, give a rabies shot, and a microchip for identification!

Not in Marion County? Call your local animal shelter and see if they have a program to help with spay/neuter! These programs are spreading like wildfire!

Rescue

Recently, Mom got an email from a lady who had taken in 2 Bostons from a neighbor. The neighbor had bought a new house and was keeping the Bostons tied in the yard.

We are an indoor breed! Our coats are too short to keep us warm in the winter. Our noses are too short to breath comfortably in the heat. We're also people dogs! We crave lots of attention. So there's no doubt that these poorgirls were very unhappy and uncomfortable.

Mom contacted a Boston terrier rescue group. Now these girls are being held in a foster home, and will be spayed, checked for heartworm, and updated on shots, before they are placed in a forever home.

Thank you to all the people in the Rescue Network!! These people dontate their time, and money simply for the love of these dogs.

Till next time,

Sparky
